“Superhero Powers”
In this activity, students will create their own superhero, which will be inspired by an event they witnessed or have had to overcome.
Amari tells the ARTT group that many superheroes received their powers as a result of a tragic event or challenging circumstances they overcame. Haley later reflects on Amari’s words and realizes she has become stronger because of what she has had to live through.
Consider challenges in your own life that have made you stronger. Develop a superhero based on those challenges and resulting traits; compare your superhero to the characters in the novel. You might opt to create your superhero based on events you’ve witnessed or read about instead.
Create a drawing with captions and labels of your superhero.
