Ruhn tells his best friends Flynn and Declan about his new mission. He asks them to keep a watch on him as he closes his eyes and uses the crystal to project his mind to Daybright, a woman who disguises herself under a cloak of light. Without consciously planning, Ruhn appears to her clocked in the night sky. Daybright gives him the code name Night, to protect his identity. She gives him a message for Cormac: “Tell your commander that safe passage is granted under the cover of the waning moon” (244). She tells Ruhn she prefers to communicate with him rather through radio.

Celestina calls her triarii to her residence instead of her office, making Hunt suspicious she has an illegal mission for them, like Micah would do. However, Celestina has called them home to give them news she wants to keep private. Pollux has been beaten up by Baxian since he was attempting to rape a Faun. News crews filmed the fight between the two angles. Baxian says Pollux was forcing himself on the Faun, but according to Pollux “some females say no when they want it. It’s a game to them” (240). The survivor refused to press charges against Pollux.
