Chapter 31 Summary: “Maeve: Saturday, March 28”

Despite the events of the other night, everyone still attends Ashton and Eli’s wedding. Eli received word about Emma and her relationship to Jared. He assumes that she got her hands on her dad’s workers composition settlement shortly after Christmas. She was angry and looked for Simon’s old revenge forum, where she met Jared and told him what Brandon did. Jared raised the idea of a revenge pack, and Emma didn’t exactly decline. Emma claims she stopped talking to Jared after the game was launched, that she didn’t know Brandon was going to die, or that Eli was a target. Yet, Jared directly contradicts all statements. Eli assures Maeve and Knox that Phoebe’s only involvement was Emma using her name.

Maeve thinks that watching Ashton and Eli “exchange their vows reminded everybody that love and hope and beauty still exist, even when things seem impossibly dark” (260). Bronwyn hasn’t let go of Nate, who was only superficially injured, since they left the hospital. Mr. Myers told Knox that his company’s disability policy will cover Nate’s salary while he recuperates. Maeve observes Luis hitting it off with her parents. Luis asks Maeve to dance and says he’d like to take Maeve on a real date.
