Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Business Proposal”

In this activity, students will develop a business plan to apply entrepreneurial skills inspired by the book.

Mac and Vince have an entrepreneurial spirit and use their connections to fill needs within their student community. Consider other ways students might cash in on this entrepreneurial spirit in schools without the bullying and power dynamics Mac and his team use. Then, create a business and a business proposal using digital media that solves problems within your school. Use these questions to develop your presentation.

  • What problems need fixing in your school?
  • How will your business solve difficult problems students often encounter?
  • What is the cost of your services? Will you require cash or favors, or both? Something else?
  • How can you make your media proposal appealing to students while describing the purpose of your business?
  • What is the name of your business?

Share your business proposal with peers, drawing parallels between your business plan and Mac’s business plan using text details.

Teaching Suggestion: Consider providing limitations for students on the types of business proposals that may be included in the class. Students may find it beneficial to analyze and discuss different business proposals before creating their own.
