Chapter 16 Summary

They walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and stop to talk. Mia asks him more questions about the problems with the band. Adam finally asks her why she left him. She begins to cry and says that for the longest time, she just didn’t feel like he was reachable, and that he was never himself around her after the accident. He reminds her that he tried to be close with her physically, and that she started crying when he touched her. She says that it was only those two times, and that she might have been okay if he had been willing to try once more. But when she got to Manhattan, she realized that she felt better without him, and wasn’t sure why. Then she realized that she hated him because he made her stay in this world. Every day she woke up and remembered that her family was dead. It would have been easier to just go with them. But she believes he kept her here by begging her to stay alive while she was in the coma. Adam screams, “I can’t do this anymore!” Mia walks away.
